EDMONTON – Marc Barylo, a long-time vice-president with Catholic Social Services, has been named the new executive director of the Edmonton Catholic Schools Foundation (ECSF).

Barylo served 30 years with CSS as chief development and community relations officer, leading the agency's fundraising efforts, including its highly successful annual Sign of Hope campaign.

At the Edmonton Catholic Schools Foundation, he will be responsible for a two-year-old organization with a mandate to raise public awareness about the benefits of Catholic education and to enhance funding for Catholic schools in Edmonton.

"We are very pleased that Marc has agreed to take on this leadership position with the foundation," said board chair, Dr. Mona-Lee Feehan.

Feehan lauded Barylo for his deep Catholic faith and "unshakeable commitment to Catholic education." She also praised his "excellent leadership and managerial skills."

Barylo said he is excited to assume his new role. "We have a passionate board of directors who are deeply committed to Catholic education," he said.

"I also look forward to working collaboratively with the outstanding leadership team, staff, parents and students of the Edmonton Catholic School system."

Barylo noted that he attended Catholic schools in north Edmonton. "If it was not for the great dedication, patience, skill and compassionate support of my teachers, my life would have turned out very differently than what it is today."

"I am eternally grateful to all of them and glad to have an

opportunity to give back."

Barylo has won several awards for his community involvement, including the WCR's Worker in the Vineyard Award. Last year, Newman Theological College honoured him with the Kevin Carr Christian Leadership Award.

The ECSF board also announced the appointment of Szymon Bamburak as the foundation's director of operations.
