SPECIAL TO THE WCR

Back by popular demand, Sandra Brenneis and St. Peter's choir in Villeneuve will again present their popular musical drama Mary's Veil.

When asked why the show was coming back after six years, Brenneis responded, "When I talk to people they always ask, 'When is Mary's Veil coming back?'

"To be honest, I had no intention of doing Mary's Veil this year. I felt that I was too busy, many of the cast could not return and I knew that if we did it, I would want to rewrite some of the music.

"But for some reason, every time I packed the music away, I was called to bring it off the shelf. I guess it was Mary's way of saying, 'Answer the call!'"

The cast is rehearsing and excited about the show, says director Raymond Soetaert. "It is a joy to work with such an engaging and diverse cast; they keep me on my toes with their talent and their sense of humour."

Mary's Veil is an inspirational and moving musical play recounting the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

During the two-hour production, the audience journeys with Mary as she grows from child to woman, wife and mother. People come to understand Mary as a woman of strength and faith whose commitment to God reminds us all we are called to a life of service.

Once again, the group is supporting West Country Hearth, an aging-in-place facility in Villeneuve that recently added another dementia wing.

Performances of Mary's Veil will take place at the Arden Theatre in St Albert on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 1 at 2:30 pm.

Tickets are available through the Arden Theatre, (780-459-1542) and Ticketmaster. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more by calling 780-419-2500. CDs will be available at the show.
