The cost of a one-year subscription to the Western Catholic Reporter will increase by $5 effective Oct. 15, 2014.

For subscribers who live in Alberta, that means the price of a one-year subscription to the biweekly newspaper will increase from $30 to $35.

For those living in the rest of Canada, the cost will go up from $45 to $50; U.S. subscribers will pay $80 in the future and those outside Canada and the U.S. will see their cost rise to $115.

However, people can still buy new subscriptions or renew their existing subscriptions at the current price if payment is received at the WCR office on or prior to Oct. 15.

For example, Alberta readers whose subscriptions expire at the end of December can renew their subscriptions in advance for $30 if they do so before Oct. 15.

In January 2014, the WCR changed its basis of circulation in the Edmonton Archdiocese from one in which parishes paid for their parishioners' subscriptions to a new system in which readers now pay directly for their own subscriptions.

The WCR also now publishes biweekly, instead of weekly, for most of the year, producing 24 issues that are each larger than the 44 issues a year that were produced previously.

The circulation of the newspaper, which next year will celebrate its 50th anniversary, is currently about 7,600.
