EDMONTON — Knights of Columbus in Edmonton are helping to bring some warmth to children during the cold winter months.
On Jan. 10, local knights distributed about 100 new free winter coats to low-income children at Mother Teresa School.
The distribution was led by Grand Knight Julian Hnatiw and fellow members of Council 4788. They were assisted by State Deputy Neil Gannon and District Deputy Patrick Picardo.
The event marks the third year that the Knights' Coats for Kids initiative has been providing new winter coats to children in need.
Altogether, the Knights will distribute more than 12,000 coats this winter across Canada and the U.S.
The Coats for Kids program is part of a Knights campaign, which began in 2006 to make donations to charities that support children's needs.
The initiative aims to help families with children living in colder climates who have been severely affected by the economic downturn.
