Edmonton – The annual World Day of Prayer will be celebrated in 16 churches in the Edmonton area on Friday, March 2.

This year's service was built on the theme Let Justice Prevail by the women of Malaysia.

Christians in 170 countries around the world and 2,000 communities in Canada will take part in the celebration put on by the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada.

The ecumenical Day of Prayer encourages women to share their spirituality and prayer.

It is also a way to respond to international issues affecting women and their families by taking action together for justice and peace.

The Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada is composed of 11 churches - African Methodist, Anglican, Canadian Baptist Ministries, Disciples of Christ, Evangelical Lutheran, Mennonite, Presbyterian, Quakers, Roman Catholic and United Church.
