Cuts to CCODP kill Catholic vision of politics

February 11, 2013

It is perhaps the death of a Catholic vision in Canadian politics, and the Conservative government has been driving a stake through its heart. The latest blow is slashing the foreign aid budget of the CCODP, reducing that aid to a for-profit business venture (“Ottawa had no reason to slash CCODP funding,” WCR, Jan. 28).

New beginnings would benefit Catholic education

February 4, 2013

The 2012-13 Year of Faith recognizes the priceless treasure of Catholic schools as an indispensable instrument of evangelization. January 28, 2013

When I saw the front page story in the WCR (“Churches line up to support fasting aboriginal chief,” WCR, Jan. 14), I thought I would get an unbiased account of just what is going on in Attawapiskat and why this woman is fasting on fish soup and herbal tea.

Church saves us from a degrading slavery

January 28, 2013

Re: “Article was loaded with political spin” (WCR Jan. 14).

City Hall display an affront to Christianity, says reader

January 21, 2013

I am writing to express my utter dismay at the negligence of our Catholic community not to do anything regarding the disgraceful description of our Christian faith at City Hall.

Editorial ignored facts about gun control

January 14, 2013

I was very surprised and deeply disappointed with your editorial “Human rights come before gun ownership” (WCR, Dec. 24). The “facts” that were presented were not correct in the least.

Acheson too negative about Catholic schools

January 14, 2013

John Acheson (WCR, Dec 17) presents a very negative view of what Catholic education should provide. He wants our schools to instruct our students in all the social ills, even though experience tells us that this approach is rarely successful with young people.
