"We are here primarily to listen and to understand," said the Rev. Dr. Karen Hamilton, general secretary of the Canadian Council of Churches.

"We will be passing forward what we have heard from you to Parliament Hill and we'll discuss it with politicians."

Several Edmonton leaders spoke on what their organizations are doing to end poverty and advance climate justice in the city.

Meetings with this purpose were held at Sacred Heart Church in the inner city and All Saints' Anglican Cathedral downtown on April 14.

Several organizations that deal with issues of homelessness, climate change, immigrants, refugees, temporary foreign workers, First Nations people and people with disabilities took part.

Three representatives of the Canadian Council of Churches listened at the meetings. The trio are part of a justice tour that is gathering information on poverty and climate justice across Canada.
