Student serves as principal for a dayCHANTEL MANCHULENKO
SPECIAL TO THE WCR RED DEER - Imagine a school run by one lucky student. On Oct. 29, I had that chance. My name is Chantel Manchulenko. My favourite subject is gym, and I enjoy social and science. I also enjoy school events, especially when I get to be principal. As you might know, we had a Spirit Week at St. Pat's. This week involved dressing up for Green Day, Backwards Day, Wacky Hair Day and Beach Day. My teacher, Mr. Groenewegen, kept track of who dressed up during the whole week. The reason why was because you could get your name put into a draw to be "principal for a day." That Friday, I was surprised because, out of the whole school, I was the lucky one who would get to experience that fantastic day. Not only did I participate for a chance at being principal for a day, but to show school spirit. During my day as principal, I got to do announcements, pop into each class to say hello, and evaluate teachers. I got to deal with confidential matters. (But I knew everyone was acting. It was obvious.) The highlights were when I got to eat with Mrs. Finnigan (very fun). We got Tim Horton's turkey bacon subs. The thing I will remember most, though, is when I got to supervise the elementary kids. I was surrounded by them. Mrs. Finnigan couldn't really find me, but at least she could find the crowd. Showing school spirit is a tremendous way to have fun and show you are enthusiastic at St. Patrick's Community School. |
