If you want to find a media behemoth, just look behind the mouse ears.
The Walt Disney Co. is ranked first by SNL Kagan, a media research firm, for having the greatest revenues in 2012 – $42.28 billion.
Disney easily outstripped News Corp., which is second in the rankings with $33.71 billion in revenues.
Disney also is tops among the nation’s media and entertainment companies in profit – “net income” to the Wall Street world – with $6.17 billion, more than double the profit of its next-closest rival, Time Warner, which checked in at close to $3.02 billion.
Other companies had much higher rates of return in 2012 compared to 2011 – being in the media business is very good for the bottom line.
Even though revenues increased only 1.9 per cent from 2011 to 2012, profit margins jumped 24.5 per cent for the top 25 firms.
