Sr. Mary Ell

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Sister Mary Ell, a Sister of Charity of the Immaculate Conception, who lived more than 50 years in Alberta, celebrated her 100th birthday here Dec. 12.
Ell, a native of Holdfast, Sask., entered the sisters in 1928 with three other girls from her parish.
In Alberta, she was a principal in Wetaskiwin and also taught at St. Alphonsus School in Edmonton for 31 years. She also taught at schools in Winnipeg and Vancouver.
She retired in Edmonton, tutoring and working in St. Alphonsus Parish.
In 2004, she moved to Saint John, the site of her order’s motherhouse, but continues to communicate with her friends in the West via email.
