Administrative/Editorial Assistant

Reporting to the Editor, this part-time position will be responsible for providing secretarial, receptionist and editorial assistant duties for the Western Catholic Reporter newspaper office. A key function of this role is to provide well-developed proofreading capabilities.

The specific responsibilities include: critically proofread the weekly edition of the newspaper; continually update the newspaper’s mailing and circulation lists to meet Canada Post standards; sort and direct incoming mail, and prepare and mail outgoing materials and correspondence and provide a reception service for the office.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a strong knowledge of the English language especially grammar and spelling; knowledge of Microsoft Office; strong interpersonal skills in dealing with the public and clients of the newspaper; a high degree of attention to detail as well as a demonstrated ability to be adaptable. The successful applicant should have a knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic faith and Church.

Note: The normal work week will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings.
