Being humble is not the same as being impotent or having an inferiority complex, said the preacher of the papal household.

Rather, humility comes from experiencing how enormous God's love and power are, Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa told Pope Francis and top Vatican officials.

Humility is also found in "making oneself small" by lifting up everyone around you with love, said Cantalamessa in the second of his 2013 Advent reflections to the pope and his closest aides Dec. 13.

It's always the case "those who have (humility) don't think they do and those who think they have it, don't," he said.
