OTTAWA – Bishop Gary Gordon, bishop of the Yukon for the past eight years, has been appointed the new bishop of Victoria.
Gordon, 57, is a native of Burnaby, B.C., and succeeds Bishop Richard Gagnon as bishop of the Victoria Diocese.
Gagnon was appointed archbishop of Winnipeg in October 2013 and installed in January.
Ordained to the priesthood on May 22, 1982, for the Archdiocese of Vancouver, Gordon was named bishop of Whitehorse in January 2006.
Prior to his appointment as bishop, he had served several parishes throughout B.C.
He also served 12 years as the Pacific regional representative of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops with the Interfaith Committee on Chaplaincy of the Correctional Service of Canada.
