Pope’s coat of arms
The coat of arms of Pope Francis is based on the blue shield symbolizing the Society of Jesus.
The five-pointed star and the buds of a spikenard flower represent respectively Mary and St. Joseph.
The papal motto is ‘Miserando atque eligendo,’ which means ‘having mercy, he called him.’
