As board chair for Covenant Health, I was dismayed by the condemnatory tone and absence of facts and evidence in the recent editorial "Catholic institutions must provide a Gospel witness" (Sept. 3).

It was with dismay and a fair amount of embarrassment that I read Joe Gunn's comment "Canadians must till the ploughshares of peace and justice" in Sept. 10 WCR.

So often when it comes to advocating for life it seems as if we Catholics are yelling at a train that has already left the station.

When reading the WCR, I always enjoy reading the letters to the editor to see what is on the minds of other Catholics.

Re: Chris Miller’s article Mary’s Assumption is the real deal (WCR Aug. 27).

Father Don MacDonald’s discerning commentary on Father Robert Barron’s underestimation of the Second Vatican Council (WCR, Aug. 20) was a welcome respite from those currently having their way with its meaning and relevance.

I want to share with my brothers and sisters in Christ that on Aug. 15, the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, another group from St. Theresa Parish made their consecration to Our Blessed Mother.

The article “Stopping health care for refugees could block sponsorships” (Bob McKeon, Journey to Justice, Aug. 20) may be accurate, but I would like to present the following scenario.

The Aug. 20 issue was rich and interesting.

A number of articles addressed similar concerns about the direction of the Church and its faithful.

We are very greatly saddened by the profound pain of all who have suffered in the events described during the week of Aug. 13 in Kamloops. This reality remains with us day and night, and continues to be an ever-present experience and grief that is also shared deeply in our own family.
