John Acheson’s article, “Catholic education battles secular push in today’s society,” (WCR, Dec. 17) brought many memories to mind.

We were disappointed and somewhat dismayed to find Heidi Seeholzer’s letter published in the Jan. 21 WCR (“City Hall display an affront to Christianity, says reader”).

I was dismayed to read Glen Argan’s article (WCR Jan. 14) on the legacy of Vatican II’s liturgy constitution, in which he refers to Catherine Pickstock’s critique of the reformed liturgy in her book After Writing.

When I saw the front page story in the WCR (“Churches line up to support fasting aboriginal chief,” WCR, Jan. 14), I thought I would get an unbiased account of just what is going on in Attawapiskat and why this woman is fasting on fish soup and herbal tea.

I am writing to express my utter dismay at the negligence of our Catholic community not to do anything regarding the disgraceful description of our Christian faith at City Hall.

I was very surprised and deeply disappointed with your editorial “Human rights come before gun ownership” (WCR, Dec. 24). The “facts” that were presented were not correct in the least.

John Acheson (WCR, Dec 17) presents a very negative view of what Catholic education should provide. He wants our schools to instruct our students in all the social ills, even though experience tells us that this approach is rarely successful with young people.

The recent appointment of Mark Carney to the head the Bank of England is a huge compliment to our Edmonton Catholic Schools.
