Take risks and do not let life's obstacles get in the way of encountering the true joy and life that Jesus can give, Pope Francis told more than one million young people. "Don't be afraid to say 'yes' to him with all your heart, to respond generously and to follow him," the pope told pilgrims at the closing Mass July 31 for World Youth Day. "Don't let your soul grow numb, but aim for the goal of a beautiful love which also demands sacrifice. "When it comes to Jesus, we cannot sit around waiting with arms folded.

Excited campers tore along Camp Encounter trails until they reached their counsellors. "We saw a donkey," they exclaimed. The smiling counsellors asked several questions until their young charges realized that what they saw was the island's resident moose, not a donkey.

QUEBEC CITY - Canada owes him the return of the Franciscans, the founding of the country's largest Marian sanctuary, and the development of strong and lasting ties between the French Canadians and the Holy Land. Yet, 100 years after his death and although he might become Canada's next saint, Blessed Frederic Janssoone still remains largely unknown to many people even in Quebec.

Jesus' intimacy with the Father invites us to pray

August 15, 2016
GLEN ARGAN
WESTERN CATHOLIC REPORTER

The version of the Lord's Prayer most commonly prayed is found in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew's Gospel (6.5-15). The sermon itself is sort of an instruction manual on how live in the kingdom, and indeed the Lord's Prayer follows instructions Jesus gave on how not to pray. In contrast, Luke's Gospel presents an abbreviated version of the Our Father after the disciples see Jesus praying and one asks, "Lord, teach us to pray" (11.1-4).
