Archdiocese ends flu-related restrictions

February 17, 2014

Liturgical precautions announced by Archbishop Richard Smith Jan. 8 to prevent the spread of influenza were lifted Jan. 29.

Communion can once again be distributed under both species as well as on the tongue for those who wish to receive in that manner.

Holy water has been restored to fonts and the practice of shaking hands at the Sign of Peace has resumed.

"While we are relieved that incidents of infection appear to be decreasing, we must remain vigilant in maintaining good hygiene practices, especially during the winter months and traditional flu season," Smith said in a written statement.
