The Sisters of Life, who have been invited by Archbishop Richard Smith to come to Edmonton, help expectant mothers to carry their children to term, help them with adoption if necessary or prepare them for motherhood if they want to raise their babies.
But for the Sisters of Life to offer this assurance to mothers in crisis pregnancies, they need money to promote their, train volunteers as their co-workers, and operate an intake and assessment process for the mothers in crisis pregnancies.
At their Toronto community which has been operational for five years, the Sisters of Life have trained 1,100 co-workers.
At the 2013 annual state council meeting of the Alberta Knights of Columbus, 300 plus knights voted unanimously to fundraise for the Sisters of Life.
Over the coming years we will hold plenty of fundraising events and Sisters of Life information sessions at parishes. But to begin, we are appealing to all Catholics in the Edmonton Archdiocese for donations.
If each family made a $100 donation to the Alberta Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation, we would have$6.85 million that at five per cent, would generate $342,500 a year to support the sisters’ work.
Compared to the taxpayer-funded budgets for abortion clinics, this may not seem like a lot of money. We need to do our part to give the sisters and their co-workers the money they need to do their work.
