As you may know, for the past five years, Archbishop Richard Smith has been advocating the need for the Sisters of Life to establish their order in the Edmonton Archdiocese to help us bring an end to abortions.
Since raising the concern for Archbishop Smith's desire to get the Sisters of Life to come to the archdiocese at our council of the Knights of Columbus, some young Catholic women have started meeting every two weeks to pray in front of the Edmonton abortion clinic and then go to church to pray the prayers of the Sisters of Life.
Their leader is a young registered nurse who has spent a year in the Sisters of Life formation program. She has recently returned to her home in Edmonton.
Their group is up to 12 women aged 25 to 35, some single and some married, who have decided to make a pilgrimage to the Sisters of Life Retreat Centre in New Haven, Conn., for a May 31 to June 2 retreat.
Seven of these young women have asked our council for donations to pay for the airfare to the retreat. The balance of their costs will be borne by the young women attending.
Return airfare is roughly $700 per person. I am requesting donations on their behalf. Contributions can be directed to Holy Trinity Knights of Columbus Council 12353, c/o St. Anthony's Parish, 10661-82 Ave., Edmonton T6E 2A6.
To book the flights, contributions must be received by April 15. Our council is committed to the first $500 of the $5,000 required. Any extra funds above the $5,000 will be forwarded to the Edmonton Crisis Pregnancy Centre.
