Jamie McNamara, superintendent of the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Schools (STAR) since 2005, will retire Aug. 31.
McNamara has served in Alberta Catholic schools for 34 years, beginning his career as a teacher in Fort McMurray before moving to Red Deer where he worked in a variety of roles over a period of 24 years.
According to a school division press release, McNamara leaves STAR in good shape with burgeoning enrolment, strong provincial achievement test results, a new school in Beaumont, a proposed new high school in Leduc and a positive satisfaction survey rating from parents, students and staff.
The school division hopes to announce his replacement by May.
The STAR Catholic school division has 3,200 students in and around of Beaumont, Drayton Valley, Lacombe, Leduc, Ponoka and Wetaskiwin.
