Two important anniversaries. Two famous lives.

Twenty five years ago, on Jan. 28, 1988, the Supreme Court handed down the Morgentaler decision, ruling that Canada's then rather permissive abortion law was unconstitutional.

After the great crisis over the status of the document on the Sources of Revelation that Pope John XXIII had deftly resolved, it might have been hoped that the first session of the Second Vatican Council would slowly wind down to its conclusion two and a half weeks later.

The 2012-13 Year of Faith recognizes the priceless treasure of Catholic schools as an indispensable instrument of evangelization. John Acheson’s article, “Catholic education battles secular push in today’s society,” (WCR, Dec. 17) brought many memories to mind.

We were disappointed and somewhat dismayed to find Heidi Seeholzer’s letter published in the Jan. 21 WCR (“City Hall display an affront to Christianity, says reader”).

Seminarian Brett Fawcett spends his days at the Marian Centre helping to feed the needy. When he isn't peeling potatoes or chopping vegetables or meat, he is mopping floors or serving food to the dozens of men and women who line up regularly at the centre for food and clothing.
