The Catholic Women's League of Edmonton has been assisting the staff of the Marian Centre in serving meals to the poor since the centre opened in 1955.

CAMROSE – Since 1921, the Catholic women of Camrose have been held together by their ties of faith and a bond of common service. Wherever they saw a need or were asked to help, these members leaped in with both feet.

EDMONTON – CWL member Sandra King describes some of the various ways the CWL has extended support to Newman Theological College and St. Joseph Seminary over the years.

Christmas time, yet the blues swirled around seminarian Jim Corrigan. Indeed, the first semester in a seminary is usually fraught with questioning, searching.

Ellen Greeley's Catholic roots run deep.

"Mom was a very strong CWL member – some called her Mrs. CWL – and I am sure some of her passion rubbed off on me."

Anne Laskosky knew absolutely no one when she and her family moved to Camrose in 1966.

But then the ladies from the local CWL came to visit.

Since Catholic Social Services was launched in Edmonton in 1961, the Catholic Women's League has been supportive.

The feast of Mary's Assumption, celebrated Aug. 15, is one of the most hopeful feasts of the liturgical year. In our archdiocese, it is the focus of pilgrimages at Skaro and St. Albert. Yet, perhaps we could do even more to celebrate this mid-summer feast with verve and joy.

The last few months have been occupied with preparations for my daughter's wedding. It is an exciting and happy time, and reminds me of my young adult life and my attitudes as I approached marriage.
